Hip-Hop and Rap artist Pharrell Williams was seen at the Paris Off-White Fall 2022 show, wearing Richard Mille’s RM 74-01 Tourbillon. What draws the most attention to this watch, is its crimson red rubber strap. But, the more closely you look, the more complexity you’ll find in its black skeletonised dial.
The watch is made with grey Cermet, a material particular to watchmaking at Richard Mille. It combines the lightness of titanium and the hardness of ceramic into perfection, but it’s no easy process! The materials are heated and fused together at exceptionally high temperatures, without degrading any properties of the final Cermet.
Williams is featured on Richard Mille’s official website as “a true fan of the brand” for consistently wearing their pieces, such as the RM 031 High Performance and the RM 70-01 Alian Prost. Not enough evidence of his loyalty? Williams is so involved with the brand that they released a watch specially dedicated to him - the RM 52-05 Tourbillon Pharrell Williams. He has also spoken on the brand, expressing that Richard Mille’s watchmaking is so much more than the development of luxury pieces that tell the time - rather, it’s a process that entails mimicking, conceptualising, and appreciating time.
